Swift Current's Joel Rumpel didn't take long to taste success in the professional hockey ranks.

After graduating from Wisconsin this season the young goaltender signed with the San Jose Sharks and joined their ECHL affiliate in Allen, Texas.

Rumpel helped the Americans to a Kelly Cup championship with a 3-2 record in seven playoff appearances as the team's back-up.

Allen beat South Carolina 6-1 on Sunday to secure the championship series win.

Rumpel was joined on the Americans' roster by Shaunavon's Dyson Stevenson. The gritty former Regina Pat put up 8 points in 23 playoff games.

This was Allen's first season in the ECHL after seven teams merged from the old Central Hockey League. The Americans had been back-to-back CHL champions.
