The Diamond Energy Female Midget AAA Wildcats handed the Saskatoon Stars their first loss of the 2017-18 regular season Sunday afternoon in a 6-1 win at Fairview West.

It was a nearly identical storyline to Saturday night's 4-3 overtime loss through the first 40 minutes.

Both teams were held scoreless through 20 minutes for the second game in a row, and that was a positive for Wildcats head coach Terry Pavely.

"The biggest thing for us was that first period. I think that was the moment when I think our girls really kind of put last night behind us," he said. "Our message last night was that we can play with those kids, and that's what we had to do. If we would have gotten down early it might have been easy to go 'Oh shoot, here we go again', but because we stuck with it for the first period, I think it made it a bit easier."

The game was held scoreless until just over six minutes into the second period where Wildcats forward Sara Kendall buried the puck past Stars' goalie Jordan Ivanco to get a 1-0 Swift lead.

Taylor Lind added to the lead four minutes later lifting a backhand over the glove of Ivanco.

Saskatoon would only trail by two goals for 29 seconds, as Stars' forward Grace Shirley ripped an unassisted shot high blocker side past Wildcats' rookie goaltender Amaya Giraudier for a 2-1 Swift Current lead.

As was the case on Saturday, the Wildcats were able to carry a 3-1 lead through two periods after Rosetown product Carissa Hogan buried the puck in the Stars' net with 4:48 remaining in the second.

Not wanting a repeat of Saturday's final period, the Wildcats came out with their foot on the gas, and their offence didn't seem to miss a step.

Brooklyn Colborn gave Swift a 4-1 lead just 50 seconds into the third period on her fourth goal of the season, and defenceman Ryleigh White added to that lead four minutes later on a blast from the point.

"I just heard Terry yelling 'shoot' so I kind of trusted that," White said, recapping the play leading to the goal.

With the Stars pressing late down 5-1, the Wildcats defensive-zone play tightened up even more in the final 10 minutes of the game. The only scoring for either team came on another Taylor Lind goal with eight seconds remaining.

After surrendering two goals in the third and one in overtime the previous night, head coach Terry Pavely discussed post-game what was the difference-maker in Sunday's final frame when compared to Saturday.

Giraudier stopped 20 of 21 shots in net for the Wildcats and credited a lot of that success to the blue-liners in front of her.

"I think the team played really great today, they blocked a lot of shots so they made my job really easy today. We came to win today, I guess."

The Wildcats now have a nine-day break until a December 26 matchup with the Rocky Mountain Raiders in the opening game of round robin at the Mac's AAA Tournament in Calgary.
