Hovercrafts from around Canada are in the Saskatchewan Landing today as part of their Great Canadian Hover Rally.

The hovercrafts have been in and around Swift Current since Friday, trying to spike the public's interest.

The event showcased four hovercraft in action on the South Saskatchewan River, including one which was making it's North American debut.

John Maczko, leader of a search and rescue group that utilizes a hovercraft, created the event to showcase Canadian hovercrafts and also to get people involved in the machines.

"This is the inaugural event called the Great Canadian Hover Rally with the real purpose of introducing hovercraft and amphibians to folks in the area, as well as getting some of the hovercraft pilots together from the region, and going out and sharing some common piloting skills, and really having a good time together within the organization.”

Various types of hovercrafts showed up to the event including the "Surveyor" from Vancouver Island, a home built hovercraft from Calgary, and the "Christy" from North Battleford called the "Mercedes of hovercraft" by Maczko.

The hovercrafts were also offering rides to onlookers, showcasing the unique traits of each hovercraft.
