The Swift Current City RCMP are reporting a spike in the number of complaints about fraudulent phone calls.

According to claims, the RCMP have fielded, the calls come from an individual claiming to be part of the Canada Revenue Agency.

During the call, the individual uses threatening or aggressive language to try and frighten people into paying a fictitious debt.

In other cases, the caller has also been reportedly asking for personal information from the potential victims.

The RCMP say if you have lost money or provided personal information to this scam, contact your local RCMP detachment immediately.

The RCMP wishes to remind the public that if a call of this nature is received, they can also contact the Phone Busters Fraud Line at 1-888-495-8501.
