Southwest residents are encouraged to attend the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer's fundraiser coming up later this month in Swift Current.

The SCCHS track will host the annual walk on May 25, beginning around 1 p.m. and including a barbeque and children's activities.

Amanda Baker, revenue development coordinator with the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, notes that people aren't required to fundraise, but donations are always graciously accepted.

"We're very excited to be putting together the walk in Swift Current," said Baker. "Anybody can come and participate."

The organization has set a fundraising goal this year of $5,000, and people who registered prior to April 30 and had already raised a minimum of $100 would have the chance to win the early bird prize, which is valued at over $1,000.

"We are committed to raising funds to support programs and services that are offered to those affected by dementia in Sask, along with their caregivers," she said. "The funds also go toward research into finding a cause and a cure."

Baker notes that around 20,000 people in Sask. have been affected by dementia and that it's becoming increasingly common.

Community members interested in more information can www.walkforalzheimer.ca and register under Swift Current area walk.

"There's going to be a lot of different activities going on and it's all to raise money for this really great cause, so we're hoping as many people as possible from Swift Current come out and participate," concluded Baker.
