Most of the snow that we got last weekend has melted away, but many people are just about ready to get the sleds back out for another season.

With that, the Saskatchewan Snowmobile Association has a few reminders for riders when heading out this winter, and that includes staying off the ice for now.

"We haven't had real extreme cold weather to form what we call 'safe ice,'" said Association President and CEO Chris Brewer. "Just don't go on any type of water right now. Swamps, sloughs, rivers, lakes... you name it, just stay off totally, please."

Brewer adds underneath the fresh snow lies all sorts of hidden dangers, and is asking riders to be vigilant.

"Farm equipment, pocket gopher mounds, there's stones, there's stumps, culverts and lots of hidden dangers that are there," he added.

Brewer reminds riders that it's mandatory for anyone born on or after January 1st 1989, to take the Sask Snowmobile Safety Course, before heading out.
