A local lawyer has been recognized for her contributions to the legal profession and public service with the Queen's Counsel (Q.C.) designation.

Appointments are made by the Minister of Justice on a yearly basis.

Andrea Argue, lawyer with Kanuka Thuringer LLP in Swift Current, and one of the 2021 Queen's Counsel appointments said that it is an honour to be recognized on such a large scale.

“I love what I do,” she said. “I enjoy working with my clients, I enjoy helping people. So, I mean It's just nice to sort of be recognized and encouraged that way I guess with such a designation.”

Argue has had an extensive career in law, practicing in Swift Current for 20 years after being called to the bar in 2002.

She also elaborated on some of the work that she does.

“I do a lot of solicitor work, so corporate commercial work and helping folks out here, in the area and across the province,” she stated.

Queen's Counsel appointments are based on recommendations from a committee consisting of Saskatchewan's Minister of Justice and Attorney General, the Chief Justice of the Court of Appeal for Saskatchewan or the Chief Justice of the Court of Queen's Bench and the past presidents of the Saskatchewan branch of the Canadian Bar Association and the Law Society of Saskatchewan.

To be eligible for a Q.C. appointment, individuals must live in Saskatchewan and must have practiced law for at least 10 years in the superior courts of any province or territory of Canada, the United Kingdom or Ireland.
