92 amateur golfers are getting ready to tee off at the Elmwood on August 3, 2020.

The Golf Club is once again playing host to one of six local qualifiers for the RBC PGA Scramble tournament.

Brennan Rumancik, the Head Golf Professional at the Elmwood, and the local organizer of the event believes that this will be the third or fourth time the Elmwood has hosted.

He explained that the tournament itself will see groups of four golfers competing, Scramble style with a unique handicap process in order to even out the playing field.

"It takes 10 percent of your handicap. All 4 players on the team are added up and you're given a handicap. And then, for example, if you're given a handicap of 4o total you'll get 4 strokes off your final score."

The top two teams from the local events move on to regionals, this year being held in Regina at the Wascana Country Club.

The top teams from regionals end up taking the grand prize, an all-expenses golfing experience playing at one of the top three courses in Canada.

Cabot Links in Nova Scotia is ranked third in Canada and is ranked within the top fifty golf courses in the world.

"It's an all-expense-paid trip to Cabot Links in Nova Scotia I think for five or six days. So it's a really neat trip to win when you're playing with your friends. It's always a great time."

Due to COVID, Rumancik says that the tournament will of course look a little bit different, ditching the traditional shotgun start for a staggered approach in order to comply with the province's public health order.

"So it'll be a little bit different. We're not going to have the same atmosphere of everyone sitting around afterwards and seeing who the big winners are. But that's 2020. We have to do things a little bit differently and I think everyone is on board. They're excited to play in the event regardless of what procedures we have to follow."

Tee times at the Elmwood will be starting at around noon and run staggered until 4 p.m.
