There was big news for the Chinook School Division in yesterday's Provincial Budget.

Funding is coming for a new K-8 public school in Swift Current to replace Oman School, which is also planned to be a part of the city's new integrated facility.

Liam Choo-Foo, Director of Education for the Chinook School Division, says it's very exciting news, as it's been a long process to finally get to this point. He adds Chinook officials will be meeting with the Ministry of Education in April, and the first allotment of money will be for detailed planning of the school.

Choo-Foo adds the School Division is receiving 0.9% less funding overall in the budget, which amounts to about $700,000. He says they prepared for the reduction last year, and it won't force cuts or affect programming this year.
