Foreign workers in the hospitality industry in Saskatchewan will soon be able to apply for permanent residency.

That's one of the improvements planned for the Temporary Foreign Worker Program, planned by the Provincial and Federal governments.

Anika Henderson, Immigrant Settlement Co-ordinator with Great Plains College, says this could be a way to help deal with the labour shortage, by offering the chance to make Canada a long-term home for newcomers.

Henderson adds that foreign hospitality workers who have worked for six months or more and are offered ongoing employment can apply to be a permanent resident.
