This week marks drug and alcohol awareness week around the province, and members of Students Against Drunk Driving and the Comp High School in Swift Current have something special planned for this Thursday.

"The mocktail competition has been running annualy for many years," said Comp Teacher and SADD advisor Sarah McDonald. "A mocktail is to replace 'cocktail', so they don't contain any alcohol. The purpose of a mocktail is to show people that you can have fun, interesting drinks that don't have alcohol in them. You don't have to have alcohol to have a good time."

McDonald says many different organizations around the city often get involved in the competition, and they're encouraged to decorate their table and present their mocktails as creatively as possible.

"We've had some very interesting presentations over the years," she added. "EMS have had some great ones, bringing in a guerney with a dummy on the guerney and coming out of their blood bag, the drink would have been red, and things like that. I think they probably have more fun with the presentation. Generally, it's the students who come around and taste the mocktails, and then we have judges who also judge for presentation and best-tasting mocktail."

Mcdonald reminds those involved they must have at least 100 samples, and no alcohol or nuts can be used in the mocktails.

If you're interested in getting involved in the competition, or for more information you can contact McDonald at smcdonald@chinooksd.ca, or get a hold of her at the Comp.
