Members of Parliament across Canada will be returning to Ottawa today, including Cypress Hills Grasslands MP David Anderson who fulfills the role of Opposition Critic for Human Rights and Religious Freedom.

Politicians will have no shortage of issues to tend to in Parliament, including a sinking Canadian dollar and record low oil prices.

Speaking to SwiftCurrentOnline, Anderson reflects on 2015 for Cypress Hills Grasslands and addresses the current issues facing the region and country.

"2015 was a good year for the most part for this area. Agriculture has done well, oil and gas hasn't been as slowed down here as much as other places, I think there's some concern for the future through the summer and fall especially with energy prices and dollar. But there is some benefit in that too if we're shipping around the world and getting paid in American dollars, it is good for us to move product as well."

The Canadian government is currently under pressure from human rights groups to cancel a $15 billion dollar arms deal with Saudi Arabia after the country killed a Shia cleric among many others for challenging the royal family.

Anderson, Opposition Critic for Human Rights and Religious Freedom addressed the controversy.

"Countries around the world buy different weaponry and armoured vehicles and those kind of things. Canada has been involved in the production and sale of some of those things. We have a contract with the Saudis to provide them some vehicles and that has been a source of controversy if we should be supplying a regime like Saudi Arabia with this equipment or not. I think you'll hear more of that when the House comes back."
