Only laundry should be separated by colour - that was the message for dozens of people who gathered at Market Square yesterday to march out racism and discrimination of all forms.

Icasiana de Gala is the executive director of the Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre and says she was encouraged by the diverse crowd.

"All of the organizations here are providing services to vulnerable sectors, like women, those with disabilities, age. This event is not just discrimination against race but against [discrimination] against age, ability, gender, sexual orientation and socioeconomic status," she said.

About a dozen different organizations participated in the event yesterday in Market Square, while All Saints School and École Centennial School held their own activities.

Val Choo-Foo works for the City of Swift Current and facilitated some of yesterday's activities.

"What a great event when we can have all of the agencies come together and it's so important because we encourage and want a safe and caring where everybody belongs and everyone is welcomed. Like we've said before, the diversity and having all of those strengths come together and building a stronger community. A great event that hopefully we can build on again and thank everybody for coming," Choo-Foo said.

A clothes line was extended around Market Square and the garments were then donated to charity.

The following organizations took part in the event:

Abilities Council
SW Homes
Newcomer Centre
Swift Current Branch Library
SW Multicultural Association
SW Yes
SW Pride
City of Swift Current
SW Crisis Services
Drummin' Up Smiles
All Saints Catholic School
École Centennial School
