Lyric Cheque
Sandra and Larry Hill present a cheque to Lyric president, Denise Wall.

Replacement of the upstairs windows at the Lyric Theatre in Swift Current is now nearing completion.

The $40 thousand renovation project was made possible through the successful application of a Main Street matching grant. President of the Lyric, Denise Wall says the windows are being restored its look from 1912.

"So they're going to be brought back to the original size that you would see in one those original pictures. You're going to see the French panes and they'll look much closer to the original style," Wall said.

The provincial government's Main Street Program seeks to aid in rural revitalization and economic development, and as long as a community maintains their accredited status, committees can continue to utilize the program in their communities.

"We were so fourtunate to be a part of the Main Street program to begin with, let alone to apply for the grant and get it, so that was exciting news for Swift Current in general," Wall said.

Wall adds that the Lyric paid $20 thousand for the matching grant and they're requesting the public's help in raising that amount. Already, Larry and Sandra Hill each contributed $1000 to the restoration project.  She says she hopes that 18 more people or businesses will each contribute $1000.
