The SGI Traffic Safety Spotlight for April focused on speeding in work zones and aggressive driving, which resulted in law enforcement officers ticketing thousands of motorists across the province.

SGI Manager of Media Relations Kelley Brinkworth says that 3,769 tickets were given out in total.

"So that includes 3,663 tickets for speeding, 95 tickets for aggressive driving, 6 for stunting, four tickets for speeding in work zones, and then one ticket for dangerous driving," said Brinkworth.

On April 16th and 17th, police assembled in Moose Jaw for a two day STEP blitz, with a particular focus on seatbelts, cellphones, aggressive driving, and impaired driving where a total of 339 tickets were handed out by police.

"68 for speeding, 58 for non seat-belt use, 15 for cellphone use while driving, one impaired driving charge, there was 90 other charges and then there was 107 related to commercial vehicles," said Brinkworth. "SGI car seat technicians also participate in the STEP event and we checked 125 car and booster seats during the check-stop, and gave away 22 car seats."

Saskatchewan residents are reminded that traffic laws are changing this summer, effective June 27th.

"A variety of laws are changing in the province, many to do with impaired driving, also mandatory booster seats are coming into effect, there's some changes in regards to speed, this information is right on our website," said Brinkworth.
