Children have the opportunity to learn and improve their reading skills with the help of a four-legged companion.

Talla, a registered therapy dog, is a regular at the Swift Current Branch Library for the program 'Read to a Dog'.

Jan Loeppky-Mackay, who owns Talla, says the two have been coming to the Swift Current Branch Library for two-and-a-half years.

Jan explains the benefit and success she's seen from the program, which even her dog loves.

"I think the kids really enjoy reading with Talla. A couple of years ago, there was an after-school program.

I really noticed a big difference where one student didn't want to read at first and then all of a sudden he started reading and was really getting good at it," she said.
