After what may have felt like a long wait, residents of Swift Current are once again able to get their hands on COVID-19 Rapid Self-Test Kits.

The tests, provided by the Government of Saskatchewan, will allow individuals to perform the rapid test at home.

Tim Marcus, CAO for the City of Swift Current said that the testing kits will be available to the general public, with a limitation of one kit per household.

“Come between the hours of 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday to front reception desk at City Hall and make the request for a kit there,” he said.

Marcus adds that no extra equipment is needed to administer the test.

“They just follow the instructions, and then, it says that to make sure that you clear up any confusion, that you place the solution directly on the test pad to get the correct results,” he stated.

The tests come with instructions.

Marcus believes that they have a sufficient number of kits for the in term, however once numbers dwindle, it will be up to them to apply for more rapid testing kits.

He adds that as long as it is an option, they will continue to try and receive the rapid testing kits.

“As long as we're able to do this to help people test, and to help with the province distribute the kits, we certainly we would,” Marcus said.

In a press release from the City of Swift Current, Marcus said he is hopeful that this may relieve some of the strain on the healthcare system.

“We’re pleased to be able to provide these test kits to our residents, as it will certainly help ease some of the testing burden on the health system,” he said. “It is important for people who are symptomatic to get tested so they can take the appropriate measures to self-isolate, and we hope this assists in that process.”
