It's now been one week since the country elected a new federal government.

Here in Saskatchewan, the leader of the New Democrats, Cam Broten says he's particularly pleased that three NDP MP's are going to Ottawa, after his federal counterparts were shut out in the previous election.

"I am very happy with the fact that we elected some NDP MP's here in Saskatchewan once again, it has been a while since that has been the case. To me, that is a good thing, I'm glad to see that representation and I am also optimistic what this means for our province having the change in government," he added.

Broten is also confident that the Justin Trudeau Liberal government will be more cooperative when it comes to healthcare.

"There is a lot of overlap between the priorities that we have been talking about as provincial New Democrats and the things that Prime Minister Trudeau has been talking about and promoting, so I am optimistic that we can make some good headway on things like fixing health care in this province and having a federal government that gets this roll and ensuring that we have an economy that is as diversified and as sustainable as it needs to be," he said.

Broten pointed out that last year, more than 18,000 people entered Saskatchewan hospital emergency rooms, only to turn around and leave again without being seen by a physician.
