Roughly 6,000 seniors throughout the province will have to find another way to pay for their prescriptions. The Saskatchewan government announced in the budget  on Wednesday that they were adjusting the income cut off for the Senior Drug Program down from $80,000 to $65,500 per year.

"Those decisions are always the difficult decisions that are made in the budget," said Health Minister Dustin Duncan. "Instead of using the federal cut off we are now using the provincial cut off which is a lower income thresh hold."

Duncan added that the number of seniors affected is relatively small and that some may still be eligible for assistance through other programs, depending on their income, what their prescriptions cost and other factors.

He said the government does not see this as an interim measure in light of this year's tight budget and that it will likely continue, regardless of what oil revenues do in the future.
