Coming up towards the end of this month, is a presentation and workshop put on by the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan to engage in meaningful conversations and highlight the risks and warning signs of dementia.

'The ABCs of Dementia' will take place on Wednesday, April 24 from 7 - 8:30 p.m. at the Maple Creek Armoury, located at 502 Marsh Street.

Stacie Noble-Wiebe, first link coordinator with the Cypress Resource Centre for the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, encourages anyone to attend, as dementia is becoming more and more common.

"Everybody is welcome because the more we can help people understand the difference between normal memory changes that can occur with aging versus signs of dementia, the better," said Noble-Wiebe.

She notes that in Sask, over 20,000 people live with dementia and every 24 hours, at least 10 more people develop Dementia.

"So this is something that touches almost everyone's lives," Noble-Wiebe added. "Almost everybody knows someone with dementia or who is caring for someone with dementia."

The evening will give insight into the ten evidence-based warning signs of dementia and the importance of a timely diagnosis in order to best manage the disease.

"Even if you don't think you have signs or are wondering about someone you know personally, it's really important to come out and increase our awareness and understanding of dementia," said Noble-Wiebe. "The more we're willing to be a part of conversations about it, the more it reduces the stigma for people who are living with dementia and their families."

Registration is not necessary, and anyone is able to show up, whether for the whole presentation and discussion or just for a few minutes.
