The washout of Highway 1 west of Maple Creek

It will be a few days yet before Highway 1 re-opens to traffic west of Maple Creek.

Work on repairing a section washed out by the flood at Eagle Creek began on Sunday, with crews from all over southern Saskatchewan dispatched to the site.

Doug Wakabayashi with Saskatchewan Highways says, "Right now, we've got a total of about 50 people in the area, and about 30 trucks, and we're also supplementing those trucks with some private sector equipment that we're bringing in.  We should have in the order of 50 trucks hauling gravel to the Eagle Creek site."

Wakabayashi says he's optimistic the highway could re-open to traffic on the eastbound lanes later this week.
