Swift Current resident wins almost $27k in 50/50 for Change
Laurie Haynes got a pretty special phone call today. Magic 97's Colin Powers reached out to Laurie today to let her know she is $26,915 richer as the winner of the 50/50 for Change draw. "I'm in total shock," Haynes said. "I can't believe this at all." The record-breaking 50/50 for Change this year saw ticket sales reach $53,830. Half that amount goes to Haynes and half to the Southwest Facility Foundation. "We had a good response all month and then a huge final push in the last couple days," said foundation board member Caitlin Mann. "Got to meet lots of people and we wanted to thank our volunteers. We had 38 different volunteers for 94 volunteer hours. It was a big community effort." Laurie bought the winning ticket during one of our live broadcasts at the Pumpkin Spice Handmade Market. "It was a good market," she noted. "This is the best part, though." The win is extra special for Haynes, knowing that it also helps raise funds towards a new recreational facility in the community. "I grew up in Swift Current," she added. "It means a lot that I can give back to the community. It's amazing." The amount of interest in the tickets and continued response from the community is validating for those at the Southwest Facility Foundation. "It tells us a lot," Mann said. "I think they are behind us. We get to hear lots of people's comments and feedback, and how they believe it needs to happen as well. We feel pretty strongly we're moving in the right direction and that the community is behind these projects as well." This was the ninth and most successful 50/50 for Change. "Thank you to everyone who purchased tickets and helped move the Southwest Facility Foundation towards vital infrastructure in the Southwest," said Golden West Radio Swift Current Content Director David Zammit. "I'd also like to extend appreciation towards our partner businesses that hosted the Live Action Broadcasts to sell the tickets on site and all the volunteers."
