The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the City of Swift Current have reached a new collective agreement, which was approved at last night's City Council meeting.

City Light and Power Director Mitch Minken says negotiations between the two sides went very well:

The three-year contract, retroactive to January 1, 2010, calls for two wage increases of 2% each this year, 3% next year, and 2.5% in 2012.  It also creates new positions that will provide for greater efficiency, including staff dedicated to maintaining street lights and traffic signals in the city.

Minken says this agreement is fair:

City Light and Power employs 11 people in Swift Current.
