Cody Eakin has been big in overtime in his four seasons with the Swift Current Broncos, and he played hero again, this time for the Kootenay Ice last night in the WHL Eastern Final.

The 19-year-old forward scored 5:59 into OT as the Ice beat the Medicine Hat Tigers 6-5 to open the conference final series. Eakin has four goals and 10 points in the playoffs.

Game two of the series is tonight in Medicine Hat. In other action, Spokane beat Portland 2-1 to open the WHL Western Final series.

 

The two NHL Playoff games last night also needed overtime. Jerred Smithson scored at 1:57 of OT as Nashville beat Anaheim 4-3. The Predators lead that series 3-2. Meanwhile, Tyler Ennis scored his second of the night in OT as the Buffalo Sabres downed Philadelphia 4-3 to take a 3-2 lead of their own. Both the Preds and Sabres can close out their respective series tomorrow.
