Just how special was former SCCHS standout Scott Joseph's provincial-record-setting long jump at the Canada West Track & Field Championships? Well it puts him in some pretty prestigious company.

The University of Regina Cougars athlete soared to Canada West gold in long jump with a distance of 7.67 metres. That mark was noted as four centimetres short of the U20 Canadian Indoor record.

However, it gets even better for Joseph.

That jump put him in a tie for the longest leap from a U20 athlete in the 2019-20 indoor season among all competitors across the globe, as listed on the World Athletics website.

Joseph drew even with France's Tom Campagne, who set the mark in mid-December, 2019. Campagne did jump 7.85 later in the season, though that came February 9 when the 2000-born athlete was out of the U20 division.

Joseph's mark was also tied for the 173rd-longest jump among competitors in all age groups this season.

He'll be looking to improve that lofty mark in one week's time. Joseph will be at the U Sports Track & Field Championships from March 5-7 at the University of Alberta.
