The 2015 Your Family's Health Radiothon takes place over 28 hours beginning at 1:00pm this Thursday on CKSW.

Sean Finell, Special Events and Public Relations Coordinator for the Dr. Noble Irwin Foundation says this year's raised funds will not be going towards a particular piece of equipment.

"This year we are going to be focusing on long term care. The need for long term care is going to be great. We are going to have more details on that coming up at the end of the week as well when we do have the radiothon. We are going to shoot for outfitting and equipping an entire house for the long term care because there will be 22 houses being furnished and outfitted."

The foundation works hard throughout the year and holds various events, but of them the radiothon is the single largest.

Finell stresses the importance of the radiothon to the community and health care system.

"It is the one biggest opportunity to interact with the public and collect donations to support health care. When you look at what we have done in the past 7 years with radiothon, the list of items that we have used and  raised money for has been just outstanding and very well used. Without radiothon the quality of health care would not be the same."

The radiothon has been taking place for the past 7 years and the funds raised have contributed greatly to the regions health care system.

Some noteable purchases from the radiothon funds include the telemetry cardiac system which can monitor cardiac patients throughout the hospital, and the digital mammography suite which provides on average 2000 or more scans a year according to Finell.

The radiothon will once again be broadcasting from the lobby of the Cypress Regional Hospital and  special guests and entertainment will also make appearances throughout the event.

Last year's radiothon total including donations received after the fact, was $140,000 and the foundation hopes to raise even more this year.

Once the radiothon begins at 1:00pm on Thursday, donations can be made by calling 306-773-0666 or online through a link located on the foundations webpage www.drirwinfoundation.com

It is very important to the community that we support these kinds of things says Finell.
