As of Sunday morning the Town of Eastend is under a boil water advisory.

The town's water supply was contaminated when some water that wasn't treated got into the tank.

Eastend Mayor Alan Howard said it was a mechanical problem and crews worked through Sunday to get things back to normal.

The government recommends that the water has to be tested three times in a row to be considered safe for consumption. In the meantime residents of the community are being told to boil their drinking water.

"Boil the water if you're going to be doing any drinking or brushing your teeth or cooking," Howard said, "the government recommends a two minute boil."

He said, the advisory could be in effect until at least Friday.
