Last year was a record year for wholesales in Saskatchewan.

Wholesales hit $23.8 billion  in trade last year, the most ever recorded for our province

Wholesale trade was up by 8.4 per cent in 2013 from 2012, the biggest percentage increase among the provinces. Nationally, wholesale trade was up only 1.2 per cent.

“We know Saskatchewan’s economy had a very successful 2013 and wholesale trade helped to contribute to what was a good year,” Economy Minister Bill Boyd said.  “As the figures roll in, the good economic news is helpful in attracting new people and investment to the province.”

Wholesale trade numbers for December totalled $1.9 billion, a bump up of 7.1 per cent over last December. It was the second highest percentage improvement among the provinces.

“The increased activity at the Global Transportation Hub and the increased demand for products has created jobs and kept our economy flourishing,” Boyd said.  “Wholesale trade is one of the core functions of an economy.  Having a solid wholesale trade sector means we can expect more economic success into 2014.”
