Some folks are still recovering from damages done during the thunderstorm that billowed through Swift Current on Saturday.

It wasn’t long after the severe thunderstorm warning was issued by Environment Canada, that it arrived and wreaked havoc across the city.

Violent winds felled trees in multiple areas, basements were flooding as rain seeped through windows and doors, and hail pelted down on gardens and streets.

Amongst many emergency service workers and community members who quickly got to work clearing the messes, was Swift Current Mayor Al Bridal.

“This storm sort of came out of nowhere; we didn't expect it, they said a little bit of rain, but this was a lot,” he commented. “I have to give the residents and our city staff kudos for all they're doing to help out neighbours and our city staff for cleaning out drains and picking up branches and making sure barricades are up where streets are flooded over. I just saw an RCMP driving by, and I gotta give them kudos too, because I just read an article where they rescued a senior citizen that was trying to drive his electric scooter through a fairly deep puddle in front of our library. At any rate, it's looking okay now--let's just hope that's the last of our rain.”
