The public is invited to the Art Gallery of Swift Current to meet the artist of the newest exhibition, "Feed".

The solo exhibition project by Saskatoon artist Mindy Yan Miller, features five round bales of clothing, and she will be at the gallery to discuss her work.

"It's a wonderful little exhibition. It's a singular installation of five full sized round bales, but these are not the normal field bales that we're used to, but in fact full sized bales of clothing, and these are surplus clothing, and it makes for just wonderful objects, these large, colourful, kind of beautiful insulation of these bales of clothing," said Curator for the Art Gallery, Kim Houghtaling. "Mindy has for many years worked with clothing and talked about how the surplus of garments, the manufacturer, and the personality behind them, and how they effect our economies within our life and sort of addressing some of the issues around surpluses and consumerism."

Houghtaling adds many of those who have viewed the exhibition enjoyed associating with the artwork.

"Some of them are farm folks themselves, so they're very curious about how these bales are made in comparison to the way theirs are made, and they come right in out of curiosity to see how these objects came to be and what the story is," he said. "So many folks react to the volume of clothes that are being used, and they're concerned about where these objects will end up and they don't like the idea of waste, and what's lovely about that is that's exactly the kind of things that Mindy would like people to think about."

There will be two chances to meet the artist at 4pm and 7pm today, and admission is free.

"You'll have the opportunity to meet the artist, have a tour of the show, and talk about Mindy's thoughts and her history as an artist, look at some slides and have a cup of coffee together," Houghtaling explains. "Mindy's a delightful and interesting person, so it should be quite fun and interesting for everyone."
