The damage could not be limited, the hits were not timely, and the mistakes proved to be costly.

The Swift Current 57's found themselves on the wrong side of the inch to many times Tuesday night dropping a 7-5 decision to the Weyburn Beavers in front of 434 fans at Mitchell Field.

"With runners on base, we are not hitting the gaps or getting hits, and that will kill you," 57's Assistant Coach Eric Dorton said following the loss. "Early in the year it was we get guys on base and here is a double or a bomb and right now we're just not getting it done offensively. That is part of the game though. You go through slumps like that and it will change at one point."

Finishing the game 2 for 12 with runners in scoring position, the 57's were unable to take advantage of their chances when they presented themselves.

Despite the recent stretch, which has seen Swift Current drop three straight games and five of their last six, all of them have looked promising for the team in green and orange.

The 57's have been able to jump out to early lead's in each of the last five games they have lost.

Scoreless in the bottom of the 2nd, Riley Campbell was hit by a pitch with two-out and after stealing second base, he came around to score on a Brett Esau RBI single.

However, just an inning and a half later, Weyburn would take control in the top of the 4th.

Single, single and an E4, sacrifice fly, single, walk, fielder's choice, walk and another single led to four Weyburn runs as the Beavers were able to get to Swift Current ace Bobby St. Pierre.

Only one of the runs was charged as an earned run to St. Pierre, but four did score to give the Beavers a 4-1 advantage.

After Swift Current got one run back in the bottom of the inning on an Esau fielder's choice, Weyburn came right back in the top of the 5th.

Three straight one-out singles cashed in a run for the Beavers and knocked St. Pierre out of the game going 4-1/3 innings, his shortest outing of the season.

"He got hit a little bit, with some hard outs and soft hits pushing him out of the game early, but that's baseball," Dorton said of the 57's starter. "We know Bob (St. Pierre) is going to come out next time and give everything he has like he does every time. We're not worried about it."

Trailing 5-2 in the bottom of 6, a Ben Andrews sacrifice fly once again pulled Swift Current within two, but once again Weyburn would quickly respond.

The Beavers extended the lead to 6-3 in the top of the 7th, before going up 7-3 in the 8th.

Down to their final three outs, the 57's tried to put a rally together.

Andrews led off the bottom of the 9th with solo home-run, and after back-to-back fly-outs, Blake Adams hit his team leading fourth home-run narrowing the gap to 7-5.

However, that is as close as Swift Current would get as Kyle MacDonald flew-out to left field in the next at-bat.

"They're a scrappy team," Dorton responded when asked about the Beavers. "You make mistakes they will expose you. They just role when mistake happen and they did that to us in the game."

With the loss, Swift Current has now lost three straight WMBL regular season games for the first time since July 12, 2015.

It's a streak they will hope to snap Wednesday night when they host the Medicine Hat Mavericks for a pair of games.

Making up for the rain-out on June 13, the two teams will play at 6:05pm and 8:05pm from Mitchell Field.

"With baseball there is going to be adversity all of the time," Dorton said. "It's just a matter of overcoming it. This team will keep working. They don't stop coming to the park, they don't stop playing hard or getting their extra work in. Three games in a row, we're not even worried about it because we know this group is going to keep working and get back to where we were. Hopefully it happens quick, but they will get there and put the work in to get there."
