Culture Days events will be taking place this week in communities across the country.

The event which began five years ago provides an opportunity to promote culture in communities and since the events are free this makes them accessible to everyone.

Barb Parchman, Curitorial and Operations Assistant with the Art Gallery of Swift Current says they will be putting on a number of events including a coffeehouse and walk and talk tour regarding their newest exhibit entitled Series 2015 and a pop up gallery at this weekend's Market Square which will feature the works of a particular artist.

"The Everett Baker exhibition. Everett Baker was a photographer that worked for the Co-Op organization and took some amazing pictures in Southwest Saskatchewan"

Other Culture Days events this weekend include free tours of a new exhibit at the Swift Current Museum as well as the annual Highway 1 Studio Tour from Waldeck to Herbert.

In addition, the Library will be holding a Makerfest on Saturday where robots will be made out of toothbrushes and the Newcomers Welcome Center will also be holding a learn to read in different languages event.

The annual Rachman's Ridin and Recitin will also be taking place this weekend at Kinetic Exhibition Park.

Culture Days events are an opportunity to promote the culture within our community according to Parchman.

"It's always important to recognize culture in a community. It's part of the fabric of the community and having these free events that the different organizations puts on gives the public a chance to maybe learn a little more, become more engaged in their community organizations."

Parchman adds that last year the museum was recognized at a national culture days event and received an award for the most innovative activity.
