While not moving nearly as fast as a shooting star, wagon rides in the Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park were working to fulfill just as many wishes.

The Southwest Harness Club is paying donations to the Children's Wish Foundation as they offered wagon rides to satisfy the dreams of critically-ill children.

Donations were being raised from the price of admission for the rides which circled the park's lake.

Six teams of two horses pulled the wagons around the route, making four journies around the lake, with around 10-14 people on each trip.

In past years, the event has raised around $900 to $1,400.

This was the 14th iteration of the fundraiser.

Mimi Martin, the senior park interpreter at Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park, gave more information about the Children's Wish Foundation wish-granting process.

"Each wish averages about $10,000, and in Saskatchewan they have 128 right now that are approved, and each child has within five years to do the wish."

The five years is meant to accommodate for any time a child may be sick and can't participate.

Martin said that the impact of the wishes often doesn't hit far from home.

"I remembered two years ago, there was a little girl from Saskatoon, and her wish had been realized. She was on the wagon and got to drive the horses, and she wanted to see the cast of Full House, so that was her wish, and she was so happy about that."

She said that she was looking forward to hosting the event again next year if all involved parties are on board for a 15th year.
