They'll be some unique family fun this weekend out at Lac Pelletier Regional Park.

The first annual Colour the Lake 5K Family Fun Run is set to run late Saturday morning beginning at Darlings Beach.

Candace Sewell, one of the organizers of the Colour the Lake 5K Family Fun Run, said the event title may include the word run, but participants don't have to.

"You can run it, you can walk it, you can crawl it, you can dance it, you definitely don't have to run it," she said. "We have five colour stations and at each colour station they're going to have coloured powder and they're going to throw the powder at you as you're running by. At the end of the 5K, you will have five different colours of powder on you."

The trek will see participants make their way from the beach area through the campground and onto the trail that was built in 2014 and then after two and a half kilometres they'll loopback.

"We're just trying to come up with new events to do in this community," she said. "We've always been known for the Shake The Lake event and that's our big fundraiser but we wanted to do more family-orientated stuff. There was a run out here a couple of years ago but we thought it would be fun to bring it back and add some colour to it."

Funds raised from the event will go towards the park's children's program, movie nights, and other future events.

Today is the final day for registration for the event and it's $30 per participant.
