A Swift Current non-profit gained some vital funding just ahead of the Christmas season this afternoon with Golden West Broadcasting's 50/50 For Change coming to a close.

The draw for the $6,168 made by EchoLotto Inc. just moments after 3 p.m. will be split down the middle between Swift Current's Fresh Start and Chanda Legare.

"It went really well," Tracy Barton, a family service worker with Fresh Start, said regarding the raffle lottery. "We got lots of insight into the community about what we do, how we help the community, the community overall is overwhelming with their kindness."

That overwhelming support really shone through in the last 96-hours of the 22-day long raffle with the total ballooning from $2,900 to the final number at 3 p.m. today.

"Thank you so much to everybody that participated and showed their support for ourselves and for the community, it's amazing," she said.

Twelve businesses in Swift Current hosted live-action broadcasts, some multiple times, to help grow awareness for Fresh Start and for the 50/50 draw as well.

"Shoutout to all the sponsors that welcomed us with welcoming arms into their businesses and offices," Jodi Cave, the admin coordinator for Fresh Start, said.

Fresh start will collect $3,084 from the 50/50 event and will be put towards their family and counselling programming.

The winning ticket was purchased by Legare at Pizza Hut last night, less than 24-hours before the draw was made.
