Swift Current has really shown the holiday spirit with Operation Christmas Child this season.

The annual program from Samaritan's Purse collects shoeboxes filled with gifts that are sent to developing countries, and distributed to children in need this Christmas. In addition, specially marked shoeboxes will also be sent to Ukraine to help children amid the ongoing conflicts in that country.

So far, Swift Current has just done an amazing job," said Local Area Co-ordinator Benita Letnes. "We have over 3700 shoeboxes collected. We have never collected 3000 before... just think of all the children that will get a shoebox, because of the time and energy that people put together this year, so thank you Swift Current, you have done an awesome job!"

Letnes says those who missed last week's national collection week have one last chance to drop off their shoeboxes this afternoon. She says any shoeboxes that are dropped off at Trailview Alliance Church (298 Battleford Trail West) by 4:00pm this afternoon will be loaded onto the truck, which will leave on Tuesday morning.
