Santa and Mrs. Claus make a special visit at November's Downtown Christmas Tree Lighting

There's just one more sleep until Christmas, and Santa Claus will be coming to visit the good girls and boys in the southwest tonight.

Staff at the Swift Current Airport have been busy all day with preparations to ensure the big guy gets into town safely.

"We've been in close contact with Santa's headquarters at the North Pole to ensure his flight arrives safely at the airport today," said Airport General Manager Todd Schultz. "We try to keep some of the other traffic to a minimum, of course, Santa's sleigh is quite large and has quite a lot of cargo on board, and the runway has to be very clean."

The forecast for is calling for a few clouds and a low of just -9, which is a welcome change from the cold snap we've had over the last few days, but a slight chance of snow and winds gusting to 60km/h could greet Santa as he touches down tonight.
