This week has been proclaimed Saskatchewan Library Week to celebrate the more than a thousand public libraries in the province.

"The theme for this year was Libraries that inspire, and the challenge that the Saskatchewan Library Association set out was for project was book spine poetry," said Chris Harrow, Manager of the Swift Current Public Library. "Book spine poetry is similar to mantic fridge poetry... you find a book, you get the title and then you stack other books underneath that into a poem, then we will take a photo and send that along for a draw. Libraries inspire in a lot of ways, including in the creation of poetry."

Harrow adds the library is constantly trying to draw in new patrons, not only through updating their collections, but through programs and events.

"In the last little while, we have expanded the kids area, and we are in the process of building a whole new puppet theatre in tandem with the Art Gallery," he added. "I feel that getting people into the library is most important, so we have been doing programming over the last couple of years, and have been getting successes in attendance and interest in our programs."
