This morning, the Cypress Health Region declared an outbreak status for the Swift Current Care Centre.

The facility is closed to all visitors until further notice, and residents are not allowed to leave the facility either.

Director of Population Health, Trent Regier says an unknown illness affected seven residents at the facility.  As a result, visitation is restricted and residents are asked to remain at the facility at all times in order to prevent spreading the illness to the general public.  He says samples have been sent to the Provincial Disease Lab for testing, and they hope the illness will be identified in the next few days.

Regier adds that outbreak measures have been put in place at the facility, including limited staff movement, and enhanced environmental cleaning.  He also reminds everyone to use personal infection control methods, such as frequent handwashing before and after handling food, after using the washroom, and after shaking hands with several people.  He adds that if you have symptoms like nausea and diarrhea, and are concerned, you should see your doctor or call the Saskatchewan Health Line at (877) 800-0002.
