Shaunavon centennial

2013 is Shaunavon's centennial year, and a full year of celebrations starts with the Centennial Kick Off Party on January 1st.

"Every month, there is going to be something that is connected to the centennial, and so there will be normal things that happen in the town throughout the year that will all have a centennial connection to them," said Leslie Goldstein, co-chair of the Shaunavon Centennial Committee. "It's going to be a fabulous year, and we're starting off with a big bang, literally, with fireworks on January 1st.

You are asked to bring your real Christmas trees to the Crescent Point Wickenheiser Centre that day by 3:00pm and they will be burned in a big bonfire at about 4:00pm. You can also take part in shinny and skating and stay for the fireworks at 6:00pm.

The big centennial event in 2013 is the homecoming weekend of July 18-21, and Goldstein adds that they are currently taking registrations for the weekend at the museum, and those who purchase their registration by January 31st and will be eligible for a Centennial Prize Package.

She adds the committee is still looking for volunteers for the Centennial celebrations, and if you can help out in any way, stop by the Shaunavon Museum.
