Health Regions and Health care providers in Saskatchewan have been working hard to improve surgical wait times for patients as a part of the Saskatchewan Surgical Initiative.

"Since March of 2010 to October 2013 we've seen a 65 per cent reduction of patients waiting greater than three months for surgery." Said Director of the Surgical Initiative Ron Epp.

He adds that in the Cypress Health Region all patients have been receiving surgeries within the three month time frame.

In other health regions throughout Saskatchewan 79 per cent of patients were offered surger within three months and 92 per cent within six months.

Other goals of the surgical initiative is to improve the experience of the patients in terms of safety and delivering care in a more streamlined way.
