sports day

Saturday, November 29th, is the 5th annual Sports Day in Canada, and the City of Swift Current is getting into the spirit by also celebrating Jersey Day on November 28th.

"We're wanting everyone to participate by wearing a jersey at work, and since there's no school on November 28th, so kids may have to find another opportunity to wear their jerseys," said Val Choo-Foo, In Motion Community Facilitator for the City's Community Services Department. "Then that evening, because it's our final centennial event, we are asking everyone to come down to Market Square wearing their Broncos jersey or any jerseys for the Light up the Future event."

You can also have a chance to win an autographed Swift Current Broncos jersey by tweeting a photo of yourself wearing your jersey @city_sc, posting the photo on the City's Facebook page, or emailing v.choofoo@swiftcurrent.ca.

Events on Sports Day in Canada include free public skating from 2:00pm to 3:00pm at the Credit Union iplex, and free public swimming from 1:00pm to 6:00pm at the Aquatic Centre, and Choo-Foo adds there are special activities at both facilities.

"At the iplex, we'll have some Wildcat hockey players, some local figure skaters, and Charlie Horse will be there to have some fun," she said. "At the Aquatic Centre there will be a family swim, public swim and lane swim at different times, and we're really excited to have Meghan Chisholm, who successfully swam the English Channel on July 22nd, who will be signing autographs and doing some fun challenges with those participating in the pool."

The local Elks club is sponsoring the free public skating on Sports Day, and throughout the winter, and RBC is sponsoring the day of free swimming.
