The City of Swift Current voted in favour of a new 4-year agreement with the union representing city light and power employees who will be seeing a 9 per cent wage over the life of the agreement.

Those with over 10 years of continuous employment with the City will receive an additional 50 cents per hour.

Councillor Pat Friesen spoke in favour of the agreement prior to voting, saying the longer term for the contract provides stability.

"I think its great we can reach agreements that are a little longer rather than 2 or 3 year agreements to provide stability for us and we won't have to start renegotiating again in the near future."

IBEW, also known as the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers negotiated on behalf of the 12 light and power utility workers.
