There's always a danger of thin ice on many frozen lakes and rivers, but more so if that body of water has an aeration system.

Those systems feed air into shallow frozen water to keep fish and plants alive in the winter, and the air bubbles can cause thin ice and open water.

An aeration system is in place at Clearwater Lake near Kyle.

The Ministry of Environment is asking residents to be careful on ice, especially if there is an aeration system, and add other factors can cause thin ice on any body of water.
