The SHSAA Region 'A' Badminton championships were held Saturday, May 6 in Swift Current.

With 10 different teams representing the Southwest at the tournament, a total of three teams were able to punch their ticket to provincials.

The Leader duo of Payton Stimson and Kyla Tumbach are girls doubles regional champions.

The pair finished with a record of 5-0 to take 1st place.

Also competing in girls doubles were Savannah Mass & Kenna Anton from Fox Valley.

They had a record of 1-4 to finish 5th.

The mixed doubles category finished with 5 teams tied with 3 wins/2 losses. When the calculations were done, the Fox Valley duo of Nicholas Ehnisz and Rebecca Chou were awarded second place and will now advance to the SHSAA provincial tournament in Weyburn on May 13.

The mixed doubles proved to be quite a log jam as 5 of the 6 teams had records of 3-2 and were all tied for first.

After doing the math calculations, the team from Gravelbourg, Ryan Boire & Isabelle Piche, were declared the champs.

Finishing in 2nd was Rebecca Chou and Nicholas Ehnisz from Fox Valley, which was good enough to advance to provincials.

The other SWAC team was Ben Dumontel and Jyllian Kaliciak who finished 6th with a record of 0-5.

Despite finishing 3rd in boys doubles, the team of Carson Leach and Jordan Mastel from Leader will still find their way to provincials since the 2nd place team from Regina could not advance.

Leach and Mastel finished with a record of 3-2.

The Fox Valley duo of Aden Hudec/Patrick Ehnisz finished 4th at 2-3.

In girls singles the SWAC reps were Amanda Mitchell (Frontier) and Cassandra Benson (Hazlet).

Mitchell had a record of 1-4 to finish 5th while Benson had 2-3 to finish 4th. Neither will advance.

In boys singles Sim Singh (Swift Current Comp) and Riley Hughes (Hazlet) represented the Southwest.

Singh finished with a record 3-2 and placed 3rd while Riley was 4th at 2-3. Neither will advance.
