In the wake of a mass shooting in Nova Scotia last month, The federal government has moved forward with a ban on over 1000 models and variants of firearms in an effort to prevent such a thing from happening in the future.

Trudeau gave his daily address this morning, though today was on a different topic than COVID-19.

"We are banning 1500 models and variants of these firearms by way of regulations. These weapons were designed for one purpose and one purpose only: to kill the largest number of people in the shortest amount of time. There is no use and no place for such weapons in Canada."

Trudeau detailed more about the restrictions.

"Effective immediately, it is no longer permitted to buy, sell, transport, import, or use military grade assault weapons in this country."

A 2 year amnesty program is being permitted for those who will need time to make all necessary arrangements to abide by the new ban.
