The Western Canadian Baseball League's first-ever All-Star Game will have a decent dose of Swift Current 57's representation.

Five players and one coach from this year's roster will be headed to represent Team East in Edmonton on Saturday.

Both 57's catchers, Tanner Holen and Alex Stinnett, earned a spot on the 24-player roster, as did first baseman Jack Large, starter Zach Patterson, and reliever/closer Garrett Alexander.

Stinnett has the highest batting average on the 57's, among qualified hitters, boasting a gaudy .373 average over 15 games.

A sophomore at Cochise College in his home state of Arizona, the Mesa-born prospect has 22 hits in 59 at-bats, including seven doubles, and three long-balls.

Adding nine RBI and 11 walks, Stinnett carries a .479 on-base percentage as well.

His best game of the season so far came on June 20 in Brooks, when the catcher smacked two home runs and three RBI, while going 3-for-5 at the plate in a blowout win over the Bombers.

Holen has seen the majority of the starts behind the plate, and has appeared in 21 games.

The NCAA Div-1 product (University of Kentucky) has been a steady presence for the 57's pitching staff, but also racked up impressive numbers in the batter's box.

Over 84 at-bats, Holen has done a bit of everything, ripping 27 hits for a .321 average. He's gone deep three times, hit four doubles, and two triples, while racking up 18 RBI.

It's hard to choose his best offensive output on the season so far.

Two of his three homers have been the eventual game-winning runs, though the nod goes to his latest, which snapped the Weyburn Beavers' 16-game winning streak back on June 23.

Large, a first baseman and designated hitter, has played in 24 of 26 games so far this season for Swift Current, and is far and away the leader in home runs and RBI on the team.

His six homers and 26 RBI lead the way on the 57's - those marks also place him in a tie for fifth, and tie for sixth league-wide, respectively.

The California State University junior has a .315 batting average, and has had eight multi-RBI outings.

That includes a June 12 win over the Fort Mac Giants, where Large had a homer, four RBI, and a double, while going 3-for-4.

Alexander has been able to do it all out of the bullpen for the 57's, putting the versatility on full display.

The towering 6-foot-6 Texan has just a 1.42 earned run average over 19 innings of work, and has allowed just one earned run in his past seven appearances, spanning 18 innings.

The Texas A&M Kingsville senior has a 2-0 record, four saves, and had pitched three-or-more innings in four straight appearances, highlighted by back-to-back 4+ inning saves (June 16, 23).

Those four saves are tied for second-best in the WCBL,

Allowing just 12 hits and 10 walks on the season, Alexander has a WHIP of 1.16, while his 25 strikeouts give him a K/9 of 11.8.

Patterson has been a bit of an iron man for the 57's, as his 31-1/3 innings are 8-2/3 more than the next-closest arm on Swift Current's staff.

He carries a 2.87 earned run average and a 2-1 record over six starts.

The Arkansas State University senior has struck out 43 batters so far this season, good for second in the WCBL and one behind the league leader.

Allowing 27 hits and nine walks, Patterson has a 1.15 WHIP. His K/9 ratio is a stellar 12.4.

The best performance of the righty's season was an eight-inning effort on June 25, as he allowed two hits, no runs, and struck out 11 batters in a 2-0 win over the Moose Jaw Miller Express.

Meanwhile, first-year assistant/third base coach Ruben Rodriguez joins the Team East coaching staff.

Rodriguez played a half-season with the 57's last year, posting a team-high .426 batting-average, with 18 RBI in 14 games as a middle infielder.

Along with fellow assistant Craig Kilshaw and bench boss Joe Carnahan, Rodriquez has helped coach the 57's to a 16-10 record - good for third place in the competitive Eastern Division.

The 57's have three more games before Saturday's All-Star Game in Alberta's capital.

Swift Current is in Melville today, finishing up a rained out contest from Canada Day at 6:05 - the Millionaires lead that one 4-0. Then the 57's and Melville face off again at 8:05 in the regularly scheduled game.

The final game sees a rematch with the Medicine Hat Mavericks at Mitchell Field on Friday, after the Mavs handed the 57's an 8-2 loss Wednesday night at home.
