Today's Throne Speech at the Saskatchewan Legislature went ahead this afternoon, under much different circumstances after today's shootings in Ottawa.

Premier Brad Wall says significant security enhancements were put in place for the event, including police sweeps of the building.

"The speech from the throne day has a large presence of our Canadian forces which is a welcome presence every year. We are very concerned for their safety and the safety of all. We also have a very large group of head diplomatic missions to hear the speech from the throne."

The outdoor events for the speech were cancelled and the speech itself is went ahead at 2:00pm, but was not open to the public.

This year the speech focused on keeping Saskatchewan Strong during the 2014-2015 legislative session from Lieutenant Governor Vaughn Schofield..

In response to the death of the solider in Ottawa, Wall did have this to say from the legislative.

"Our resolve is stronger, our strength is greater, our freedoms have faced threats before and our nation will always prevail."

Some of the specific measures included in the Throne Speech were a new growth tax incentive for manufactures, continued reduction of interprovincial trade barriers with upcoming legislative changes to help police officers better protect victims of domestic violence.

In healthcare, legislation to reduce patient wait times for organ transplants, as well as a review of child welfare legislation to better protect children.
